Is It Simple? Is It Complicated? No, It’s Complexity Economics!

Abstract

Economic complexity is an interdisciplinary approach to explaining and analysing socioeconomic mechanisms in systems with heterogeneous agents, bounded rationality, interaction, and emergence. The contribution discusses how complexity economics can be taught in both heterodox and orthodox programmes, with particular emphasis on intuitive models, hands-on computer work, methodological pluralism, and the opportunities created by its interdisciplinary character.
